Desirable to have an associate's degree with at least 6-8 years' experience or a bachelor's degree with at least 2-4 years' experience in the area of safety or a closely related field.
Exceptional knowledge with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the safety field is required.
In addition, develops training about employee safety procedures, lessons learned, and accident protection and prevention.
Reviews, records, and reports workplace mishaps in accordance with Navy policy and OSHA requirements.
Conducts trend analysis of workplace mishaps and compliance deficiencies and recommends process improvements or preventative actions to prevent reoccurrence.
Develops and maintains key safety metrics.
Responsibilities also include developing and distributing educational materials, inspecting facilities and work processes for hazardous conditions or compliance issues, and recommending corrections or additional precautions to ensure compliance to established regulations.
Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Performs a variety of tasks.
Works under minimal supervision.
A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
Typically reports significant issues to and interfaces with the NUWC Keyport Safety Officer and staff.
