We are looking for an accomplished research scientist for Amazon Access Point's worldwide data science team. As a senior scientist, you will define the science direction for the team and work with our engineers to create an advanced system solving mathematically complex constraint problems. You will lead the development of novel algorithmic architectures, toward the ultimate goal of accurately predicting customer purchase propensity, demand pattern and optimizing for site selection topology future Access Point locations and eligible products worldwide.
Access Point has a rapidly growing customer base and an exciting science charter in front of us that includes solving highly complex algorithmic problems. You will work closely with and learn from data professionals from various disciplines (eg data engineers, analysts, machine learning engineers, economists and other fellow research scientists).
Key responsibilities: * Understand and mine the large amount of data, prototype and implement new learning algorithms and prediction techniques to improve forecast accuracy or optimization performance * Collaborate with product managers and engineering teams to design and implement software solutions for Amazon problems * Be the thought leader and mentor for junior scientists * Contribute to progress of the Amazon and broader research communities by producing publications
* PhD or foreign equivalent in Operations Research, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics or a related quantitative field, plus 3+ years of relevant work/research experience. Will accept candidate with a Master's degree one of the above fields with 5+ years of relevant work/research experience. * Experience designing simulation and optimization solution for large scale applications * Experience formulating and solving predictive modeling, machine learning, forecasting or statistical modeling problems. * Hands-on proficiency in the following skill(s): programming with a mathematical programming language such as R, MATLAB, or SAS or major programming language such as Python, Java, C++, C#, or C * Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences * Ability to work in ambiguous and constantly evolving environment. * Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
