Department Overview

PG&E's Local Government Affairs team leads the Company's government relations activities and strategies in the cities and counties we serve, helping to shape complex public policy debates that support our customers and local communities, invest in climate resiliency and the stability of the grid, and assure the long-term success of the company. Position Summary

This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining a strong governmental, political and community network within the Sacramento/Sierra Division (Sacramento, Yuba, and Sutter Counties). The candidate will have substantial external contact responsibility and experienced in working with local governments, community groups and stakeholders. The candidate will be skilled in building agreements and partnerships with coalitions of diverse interests.

The successful candidate will be a poised public speaker with previous public testimony experience. The candidate must also have excellent written, verbal, and public presentation skills.

The ideal candidate must have the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a very dynamic, ambiguous, and fast paced environment and the ability to produce results working with or leading a cross-functional team. They must workcollaboratively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels and positions.

The candidate will serve as an on-call emergency lead for the region up to 25% of the time, acting as the liaison between the company and city and county leadership within the region during major outages, storms, and emergencies.

The role will require regular travel within Northern California and to other locations throughout Northern and Central California as workload dictates. Up to 25% overnight travel required.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The preferred work location is Sacramento, CA. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $102,000

Bay Area Maximum: $162,000

California Minimum: $97,000

California Maximum: $154,000

Job Responsibilities

Government Relations:

  • Develop and maintain strong governmental, political and community network. Serve as a primary political contact for assigned cities, counties, and agencies. Monitor activities of special districts that impact PG&E.
  • Manage issues that arise before local political bodies in the region, coordinating company analysis and response and representing the company's position in those forums.
  • Maintain high level of knowledge on local political climate, and PG&E policy issues. Provide political and governmental expertise to assigned area.
  • Function as liaison to top government staff and local elected officials on PG&E related issues. Effectively respond to escalated customer issues referred by local elected officials.

Community Relations:

  • Build and develop partnerships with community organizations that support and enhance PG&E programs/services, assist customers, and provide support for company priorities.
  • Lead local charitable contribution strategy in assigned area. Consult with internal partners on implementing community engagement strategies to best position the Company.

Shape and Support PG&E's Operational Priorities:

  • Manage/support company programs, projects, and initiatives with public affairs elements. Prepare and implement political and community strategies, assess financial impacts to the company and develop written and verbal communications.

Emergency Response/Rebuild Efforts:

  • This position will have a role in the company's on-call rotation, which requires being on-call 25% of the time asthe liaison between the company and city and county leadership within the area during major outages, storms, and emergencies.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 4-years' experience working for an elected official, public or non-profit agency, as a political consultant, campaign/stakeholder organizing or other relevant experience
  • Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record

Desired:

  • Public testimony experience
  • Skill in facilitating complex discussions and meetings.
  • Skill in negotiating between stakeholders to reach an agreement.
  • Proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Expertise in coalition building with external stakeholders.
  • Strong political and community ties in the Sacramento Region
  • Ability to produce results working with or leading a cross-functional team.
