As part of the Telecare Family, Telecare North Sound Evaluation and Treatment (E&T) is a 16-bed facility for adults ages 18+, who are experiencing a mental health emergency.
Full Time; DAYS 7:30 am - 4:00 pm; Monday - Friday
Expected starting wage range is $19.49 - $23.50. The full wage range goes up to $27.50. Telecare applies geographic differentials to its pay ranges. The pay range assigned to this role will be based on the geographic location from which the role is performed. Starting pay is commensurate with relevant experience above the minimum requirements.
POSITION SUMMARY Peer Recovery Educators are responsible for planning, developing, organizing, delivering, and maintaining a robust recovery education monthly calendar of classes, activities and outings. They continually promote and reinforce Telecare's Recovery Culture as defined by the Telecare Recovery Centered Clinical System (RCCS) in which each member's point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into services and self-help programming.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Demonstrates the Telecare mission, purpose, values and beliefs in everyday language and contact with internal and external stakeholders
Responsible for designing and developing a robust monthly educational activities calendar focused on recovery and wellness
In collaboration with the team, designs and develops recovery training/educational materials
Delivers a variety of highly effective instructional strategies to engage every learner/member served
Conducts regular needs analyses to meet the ongoing recovery education needs of the program
Builds and maintains professional connections in the community to support and promote community based activities and outings
Participates in the planning, organization and facilitation of Recovery Centered Clinical Service (RCCS) materials, self-help and recovery education groups
Participates in verbal de-escalation and physical interventions in emergent situations and is willing and able to assist other staff as needed to maintain a safe, healing environment for all
Participates as a full team member and provides input via reporting observations, concerns, and asking appropriate questions
Draws upon own personal recovery experience with mental health/addiction challenges as a basis for engagement with members served as a peer and to validate members' own lived experiences
Utilizes recovery language and a strength-based approach to assist members to reach their fullest potential
Encourages and empowers members to actively participate in their own recovery through self-accountable and responsible choices
Supports members served in developing strategies to reduce self-stigma
Assists members served with voicing their strengths, interests, and goals throughout their time in services including: goal plans, crisis plans and other methods of expressing member preferences
Travels locally to provide outreach to members served in the community (program specific)
Must assist with restraint of members served in the event of assaultive behavior and pass assault crisis/crisis prevention training Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted and/or changed at the discretion of management.
QUALIFICATIONS Required:
High School Diploma or GED required
Certified Peer Specialist and/or completed Peer Support Training
Completion of an Adult Education Instructor course or completion within one (1) year of hire
Experience teaching or facilitating adult learning
Two (2) years' experience or part-time equivalent supporting individuals with behavioral health challenges
Experience as a beneficiary of the public Behavioral Health system of care
Current Certification by the State Peer Counselor Training Program
Ability to meet state requirements for registration as an Agency Affiliated Counselor within 60 days of employment
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be CPR, Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), and First Aid certified on date of employment or within 60 days of employment and maintain current certification throughout employment
All opportunities at Telecare are contingent upon successful completion and receipt of acceptable results of the applicable post-offer physical examination, 2-step PPD test for tuberculosis, acceptable criminal background clearances, excluded party sanctions, and degree or license verification. If the position requires driving, valid driver's license, a motor vehicle clearance and proof of auto insurance is required at time of employment and must be maintained throughout employment. Additional regulatory, contractual, or local requirements may apply.
Preferred:
Experience planning and facilitating interactive educational workshops on topics related to mental health recovery
Bilingual a plus
Bicultural background/experience preferred
SKILLS
Knowledge of recovery focused, strengths based work in mental health/addiction recovery
Willing to seek to understand each member's unique circumstances, personal preferences, and goals and incorporate them into daily work as well as any needed crisis response to help members regain a sense of control
Have a strong understanding of recovery and resilience, the value of partnerships with members and member choice, and the balance between protection from harm and personal dignity
Strong knowledge of relevant community resources and methods for accessing them
Strong presentation, communication, writings, and typing/computer skills
Experience working with adults facing mental health/addiction challenges
Interest or experience in working with people who are difficult to engage and maintain in traditional mental health programs
Ability to communicate and work effectively with members served, family members, and staff from various backgrounds
PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee is occasionally required to stand, twist, squat, kneel and lift and carry items weighing 25 pounds or less as well as to frequently sit, walk, reach, bend and do simple and power grasping. The position requires manual deviation, repetition and dexterity.
