Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

TRC Companies, Inc., a pioneer in groundbreaking scientific and engineering services, is seeking a Biologist to join our Planning, Permitting, and Licensing Practice in the Austin or El Paso, TX area. Flexible work schedule offered: a mix of remote or hybrid office/remote working is possible within Texas.


Responsibilities

The position requires a strong technical background supporting our TRC leaders serving as a Biologist to:

  • Conduct biological field surveys which may include wetland/waterbody (in accordance with USACE requirements), habitat, or wildlife and plant species-specific surveys; conduct breeding bird and raptor surveys.
  • Prepare wetland reports and obtain jurisdictional determinations.
  • Prepare Permit Applications for USACE Section 10/404 and state permit applications.
  • Provide support for mitigation activities including mitigation banking options for client projects or permittee-responsible options requiring the development of Wetlands Mitigation Plans, mitigation site design, and conducting monitoring/reporting to Agencies.
  • Prepare listed species reports and consultation packages to resource agencies.
  • Prepare federal, state, and local environmental permits.
  • Provide technical support in responding to requests for proposals.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in environmental science, natural resources, biology, ecology, or related field, and 1 to 3 years of post-degree experience.
  • Wetland Delineation within the USACE Arid West Region experience is required.
  • Listed species general habitat assessment experience is required.
  • Strong ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal communication and technical communication skills are mandatory, along with the ability to maintain a positive attitude working under aggressive schedules.
  • The candidate must have a strong ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
  • The ability to prepare clear and concise reports, procedures, correspondence, and other written materials is required.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-3 years of experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply environmental compliance and permitting regulations of applicable regulatory agencies in the Gulf/South region is not required but preferred.
  • Experience/familiarity writing NEPA related documents such as Environmental Assessments, Categorical Exclusions, and related technical reports.
  • Experience routing linear projects across landscapes to avoid and minimize environmental impact.
  • Experience evaluating existing or proposed projects for impacts to the environment, necessary permit procedures and potential fatal flaws (due diligence).
