As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team, you will be responsible for developing solutions to manufacturing challenges throughout all stages of the product lifecycle. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will work closely with programs and production, taking designs from concept to fully functional hardware. Throughout the manufacturing process, you will also help identify and develop methods to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build sequence and schedules.

In this role, you will partner with Blue Engines' design engineers in developing and manufacturing engine valves to meet the demand of the engine program. Potential hardware could include pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrically actuated valves used in high pressure and cryogenic applications. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable human spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, develop, and deploy new manufacturing methods (or refine existing) to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build schedule
  • Translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into fully functional hardware
  • Develop manufacturing work instructions to clearly define manufacturing processes
  • Conduct DFMA and PFMEA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design, build, and test
  • Define and support repair and rework activities for valve hardware
  • Design, procure, install, and integrate custom manufacturing equipment
  • Collaborate with external suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure that hardware and equipment is manufactured, processed, packaged, and delivered properly, on time, and on budget
  • Author dispositions when non-conformances and escapes are identified, then perform root cause analyses and deploy corrective actions.
  • Lead hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the entire build and test process

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university
  • 3+ years of applicable experience
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment supporting constantly evolving design iterations
  • Demonstrated ability in component fabrication, precision assembly, and testing using a variety of methods, techniques, and materials
  • Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures
  • Strong aptitude for mechanical system design and hands-on fabrication experience
  • Experience with designing, measuring, modifying, and monitoring processes
  • Comfortable working with computers and engineering software
  • Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at all levels of the organization
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and project management skills, particularly in regards to attention to detail
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

  • Direct valves manufacturing and manufacturing engineering experience in any industry (rocket engines, jet engines, land-based gas turbines, oil and gas, automotive, etc)

Compensation range for on site WA applicants is $83,070-$116,298
