• Conduct needs assessments for participants; track and develop individualized plans to support retention and personal/academic success of MESA students.
• Provide mentoring and advocacy support to assist participants in overcoming barriers or obstacles to persistence and retention. Assist students in accessing needed services.
• Provide support and coordination of the MESA program, including training MESA personnel
• Coordinate, plan and oversee recruitment/outreach activities, orientation activities, and events for MESA students, including counseling, programming, campus visits, transfer fairs, scholarship fairs, resume workshops, award ceremonies and graduation celebrations
• Serve as a resource for MESA students -directing them to appropriate resources for tutoring, financial aid, advising, counseling and other services
• Collaborate with faculty and advisors to support MESA students
• Participate in staff development activities offered by Washington MESA or the national MESA organization and Tacoma Community College professional development
• Support the MESA student center and foster a welcoming atmosphere for social and academic purposes to ensure that the center meets the needs of MESA students and facilitates cohort formation for the MESA-CAP Program
• Collaborate with planning, developing and implementing initiatives to increase success, retention and completion of MESA students at Tacoma Community College, recruitment of students (especially students of color, women, and underserved students) to STEM programs and, in particular, STEM programs at Tacoma Community College
• Interface with Marketing to create engaging materials promoting MESA activities and the MESA program for print and electronic distribution
• Work with peers who oversee other student support programs on campus, such as Office of Student Engagement, Advising, Outreach, Marketing, and Student Learning Centers to develop, coordinate and integrate activities, including jointly sponsored activities and events
• Coordinate, schedule, and publish tutoring materials for MESA students and coordinate advising for MESA students
• Develop and promote student-to-student and student group study and mentorship within the MEAS-CAP Program
• Collect data for student participation in MESA activities, transfer data, success data for MESA students *Provide clerical support for the MESA program
• Demonstrate cultural competencies required to work with students from broadly different cultural backgrounds
• Perform other related duties as assigned
• Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university or equivalent education/experience.
• Experience in planning, organizing, and delivering academic support services*Ability to work in a multicultural environment with African American/Black, LatinX, Native American, and other minority undergraduate students pursuing degrees in STEM (science, technology engineering and math) fields, with an emphasis on promoting equity, diversity, & inclusion

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university OR equivalent education/experience.
• Experience in planning, organizing, and delivering academic support services
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment with African American/Black, LatinX, Native American, and other minority undergraduate students pursuing degrees in STEM (science, technology engineering and math) fields, with an emphasis on promoting equity, diversity, & inclusion.

• Work experience in a STEM discipline
• Experience in student support services
• Knowledge and ease in working with academically and economically disadvantaged students

• Successful completion of a criminal history background check.
