Job Description

Osborn Consulting is looking to fill a new position of Director of Strategy. This individual will be a visionary leader, scanning both internal landscapes and external horizons for opportunities to propel our business forward. They'll leverage their expertise to identify emerging threats and trends, turning them into strategic growth catalysts.


Collaborative to the core, they'll partner with the leadership team to sets Osborn's strategic goals; crafting actionable plans aligned with the goals and securing the resources needed to achieve them. But their impact doesn't stop there. They will ignite the passion within our workforce, inspiring them to embrace these strategic initiatives and collectively reach new heights. With a keen eye on ongoing performance, both within Osborn and the industry, they'll continuously refine and adapt strategies, ensuring our journey towards sustainable growth remains on track.


Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead Strategic Planning: Conduct comprehensive market research, analyze industry trends, and identify emerging threats and opportunities. Translate these insights into actionable plans and set ambitious strategic goals for the firm.
  • Foster Collaborative Growth: Partner with the Director of Collaboration and the leadership team to secure necessary resources and align operational activities with strategic objectives. Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to ensure all departments are working towards achieving the shared vision.
  • Champion Innovation: Work with Director of Excellence and Innovation to encourage innovative thinking and support the development of new service offerings and market expansion strategies. Foster a culture of creativity and exploration within the firm.
  • Inspire and Motivate: Communicate strategic initiatives effectively throughout Osborn, igniting employee passion and commitment towards achieving the set goals. Foster a culture of ownership and accountability within the team.
  • Monitor Performance: Continuously monitor the firm's performance against set goals and industry benchmarks. Conduct regular assessments of the market landscape and identify potential adjustments or course corrections necessary for sustained growth.
  • Develop Competitive Intelligence: Gather and analyze market intelligence on competitor activities, industry trends, and customer needs. Leverage this knowledge to create a competitive advantage for Osborn Consulting.
  • Risk Management: Proactively identify and assess potential risks associated with strategic initiatives and market dynamics. Develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans to ensure continuous growth even in challenging situations.
  • Build External Relationships: Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders in the industry, including clients, partners, and government Leverage these connections to expand business opportunities and gain valuable market insights.
  • Lead Change Management: Champion and lead the implementation of strategic initiatives, ensuring smooth transitions and effective adaptation to new processes and technologies. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and embrace change as an opportunity for growth.
  • Marketing Plans: Developing marketing plans that align with overall business objectives.
  • Continuous Improvement: Recommending changes to current strategies for improved performance.


Qualifications

  • BS or MS degree in civil engineering from accredited program
  • WA State PE License
  • 10+ years' experience in a strategic or business development role within the Engineering industry
  • MBA or Master's of Engineering Management preferred but not required


Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and practices: This allows the Director of Strategy to assess the feasibility and potential impact of new service offerings.
  • Data analysis and forecasting skills: Ability to analyze market data, identify trends, and project future market conditions.
  • Experience with project management methodologies: Familiarity with Agile, Waterfall, or other project management methodologies to ensure efficient execution of strategic initiatives.
  • Strategic thinking: Ability to develop long-term plans, identify opportunities, and anticipate potential challenges.
  • Leadership and communication skills: Ability to inspire and motivate employees, effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, and build strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Collaboration and teamwork: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and foster a collaborative environment.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills: Ability to analyze complex information, identify solutions to problems, and make sound decisions.
  • Business acumen: Understanding of financial principles, market dynamics, and the competitive landscape in the engineering industry.
