THE ROLE

Firewalk is looking for Associate Director, Engineering, to manage and own major parts of the overall technical strategy of the game.

As an Associate Director, you will contribute with multiple engineering domains and guide the team to develop robust, scalable, and maintainable technology that will serve the needs of a live services multiplayer game. While collaborating with the studio Engineering Director, you will be responsible for guiding key engineering initiatives from conception to completion of features.

WHO YOU ARE

  • You are passionate about developing engineering teams that foster a culture of incremental innovation, autonomy, and shared accountability.

  • You are familiar and experienced in core game engine architectures, content workflows, networking, and backend technologies used commonly in multiplayer games.

  • You are familiar with Unreal engine framework, build and asset management pipelines.

  • You can take the most complex ideas, and distill them into simpler, step by step development plans that allow for iterative execution required to support live services games.

  • You rely on data, logic, and analytical mindset to help augment your perspectives resulting in impactful and informed decisions.

  • You are aware of the technical trends and competitive landscape of the multiplayer game's genre.

  • You can navigate challenging, ambiguous situations to help achieve common ground resulting in forward momentum and tangible results.

WHAT YOUR DAY MIGHT LOOK LIKE

  • Mentor, lead and manage the career of a team of 5 to 10 individuals that includes Senior and Lead Engineers.

  • Assess the progress of the engineering teams you are responsible for through task reviews, bugs, code reviews.

  • Provide daily guidance to the team to ensure that individual systems can fit together to form a stable, extendible architecture.

  • Advocate data driven and analytical approach to measurement of progress, quality, and stability of the game etc.

  • Collaborate with engineering director and technical production leadership to develop roadmaps, assess priorities that align with studio's business and product goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of game development experience that includes programming in common languages like C++.

  • 5+ years of experience in engineering manager or lead engineer position on large-scale multiplayer games.

  • 3+ years of experience working with Unreal Engine.

  • Experience in working on systems that span multiple disciplines within the engineering domains.

  • Demonstrable ability to lead complex, multi-functional projects and facilitate positive outcomes for all parties.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role's base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.
$219,400$329,000 USD
