Dr. James Alvarez's laboratory at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is seeking a highly motivated Research Technician II. Our laboratory seeks to understand the genetic and cellular underpinnings of tumor progression, with a focus on tumor dormancy and therapy resistance. To achieve this goal, we use genomic, cell biologic, biochemical, and genetic tools to study genetically engineered mouse models and human cancer cells.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and have excellent organizational skills. Prior research experience in some area related to biological sciences is required.

The applicant will have an opportunity to make meaningful contributions to research projects in our lab. The ideal candidate will be able to independently drive a research project with guidance from the PI and work collaboratively as part of a team. We anticipate that these contributions will result in the technician being an author on multiple high-impact publications.

Responsibilities

Research Technician I:

    Assisting with placing orders and keeping the lab organized
  • Performing cell culture
  • Conducting biochemical and molecular biology assays, including RT-PCR, Western blotting, and immunofluorescence
  • Working collaboratively with postdocs and graduate students to further research projects

Research Technician II:

In addition to the responsibilities of the Research Technician I:

  • Independently executing a research project with guidance from the PI
  • Additional responsibilities
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Research Technician I:

  • BA/BS in a scientific field required. Must have scientific knowledge in the area of study and basic laboratory skills.
  • Independent research experience in addition to school lab experience is usually necessary.

Research Technician II:

All qualifications of Research Technician I, plus:

  • 2 years previous experience working in a laboratory

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Research Technician I:

  • Cell culture experience
  • Experience performing western blotting and RT-PCR
  • Expertise in immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry

Research Technician II:

All qualifications of Research Technician I, plus:

  • Experience working in a research lab on an independent project

Research Technician I: The hourly pay range for this position is from $22.21 to $31.61 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
Research Technician II: The hourly pay range for this position is from $25.71 to $36.60 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
