One Washington Financial (OWF), WSECU's holding company, seeks a Principal, a newly created role that will drive our investment strategy as we seek new and innovative ideas that solve real problems for members and staff, enhancing financial well-being, increasing equitable access to financial services, or improving efficiency or effectiveness in credit unions. The Principal will identify potential investments, build and maintain these relationships, manage the pipeline of opportunities, and present viable opportunities to the OWF CEO and Board.

Your day might include:

  • Build a network of contacts and engage in industry events to help discover new opportunities, aligned with the approved investment guidelines, strategic objectives, and mission.
  • Manage the investment pipeline, ensuring a stream of opportunities for our board to review and consider.
  • Seek out new and innovative ideas that solve real and demonstrable problems for credit union members and/or credit union staff, identify how these solutions meet an unmet need (solve a moment of struggle), and determine the economic viability and total return opportunity for OWF.
  • Help facilitate an advisory council (connected to WSECU's innovation process), leveraging WSECU's leaders to vet new opportunities, discuss innovation ideas, and to build support for OWF's efforts within the credit union.
  • Work collaboratively with all areas of the credit union to accomplish strategic objectives.
  • Create and present "Pre-Flight" investment recommendations to the OWF Board, negotiate deal terms with partners, perform due diligence on investments, prepare final proposals, and work with outside counsel to finalize agreements.
  • Provide general oversight of the investment portfolio, and as needed, act in an advisory or board role for our subsidiaries. Ensure strong governance exists in each company and highlight any concerns to the OWF CEO.
  • Prepare recurring Management and Board reports, including OWF financials, investment performance, and the investment pipeline.
  • Oversee the budgeting of OWF revenue and expenses.
  • Recommend adjustments to the approved investment guidelines, as needed.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the FinTech landscape to ensure OWF remains relevant and viable.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal laws, including CUSO (Credit Union Service Organization) regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO.

What you bring to the team:

  • Bachelor's degree (related experience may be substituted, year for year, for education)
  • At least 10 (ten) years of successful, well rounded leadership experience with the ability to drive strategy and execution
  • Strong financial acumen including experience in business and financial analysis, financial reporting, project management, contract negotiation, and credit union operations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the financial and economic levers that impact business performance, and an up-to-date working knowledge of evolving technology, automation, and state and federal regulations pertaining to all areas of credit union and CUSO operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and credit union operating, lending, and onboarding systems and the ability to learn other credit union-specific operating systems and programs, as needed.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree
  • Experience in a FinTech or start-up organization
  • CUSO experience

Competitive pay: $157,349.19- $262,338.65 annually for this Exempt position, dependent on relevant qualifications, plus an annual discretionary incentive plan and benefits package

  • The range above allows our employees room for growth through annual merit and other pay increases during their tenure in the position.
  • The target range for qualified new hires is typically within the first half of the range. Actual offers will be based on individual qualifications relevant to the role and will not take an applicant's pay history into account.

Where we're located: 330 Union Ave, Olympia WA. Employee must reside and perform all work in the state of Washington. This is a hybrid position that blends working in-office and from home. The expectation includes onsite work at least two occasions per week with some additional onsite time to meet business needs.

When you'd work: Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:30 pm, full time minimum 40 hours per week, with scheduling flexibility required to meet the service needs for this full-time Exempt position
