Tooling Project Engineer
Huntsville, AL

We are seeking a Tooling Project Engineer with expertise in machine tooling and assembly, and preferably with experience in research and development to support our client, a space industry leader. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in leading projects, technical proficiency in machine tooling and assembly processes, and a passion for innovation and continuous improvement. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge space projects and technologies.
Responsibilities
  • Take charge of coordinating tooling tickets currently in Work In Progress (WIP), including but not limited to laser trip fixtures, laser weld fixtures, rolling carts, mandrel, leak checks, water flow, etc.
  • Conduct weekly tooling tag-up meetings with the team to review status, prioritize tasks, and address any arising issues related to the tickets.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers to document existing tools used for assembly. This involves assessing current tools, identifying tools for reuse or upgrade, evaluating design/analysis rigor, and identifying any additional tooling needs.
  • Translate the requirements of tooling projects into the necessary resources and timelines for the factory. Coordinate with stakeholders at the factory and develop timelines for design releases and procurement processes.
  • Delegate tasks effectively to Tooling Engineers and Technical Designers supporting combustion device projects.
  • Provide weekly status reports and communicate project needs to the Project Team Lead.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Aerospace or automotive machine tooling and assembly tooling development experience, or equivalent experience in a relevant industry.
  • Demonstrated experience working in diverse operating environments, including research & development and production settings.
  • Proven track record of coordinating or managing small projects from a technical leadership perspective.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort in leading communication across multiple teams to enhance product quality.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
