TerraPower's Molten Chloride Fast Reactor (MCFR) program is commercializing the technology to operate a fast spectrum, chloride salt cooled molten salt reactor. The Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment (MCRE) is slated to be the first liquid-fueled, fast spectrum reactor built and operated, and will be constructed at Idaho National Laboratory.

MCRE Mockup Project Engineer

TerraPower is seeking a MCRE Mockup Project Engineer (PE) that is responsible for Mockup execution, including design integration, installation, commissioning, and operations. The MCRE Mockup is a full-scale, non-nuclear, electrically heated version of the MCRE and will be built and operated at the TerraPower Everett, WA laboratory.

The MCRE Mockup Project Engineer will work closely with the MCRE Engineering Team, TerraPower Procurement, Suppliers in contract to provide Mockup hardware, and the Mockup Integrator (supplier) responsible for installation and select commissioning activities. The MCRE Mockup PE is expected to initially train and familiarize themselves with the MCFR Test Engineering and Operations teams to build their expertise on high-temperature salt handling systems.

This position requires onsite (up to 5 days a week) work at the TerraPower Everett, WA laboratory. Off-normal hours, including nights and weekends, may be required infrequently during periods of Mockup Commissioning and Operations. Some travel (~1 day a week) to the TerraPower Bellevue office will be needed to interface with the Engineering team as well.

Within the project, this position will be accountable to the MCRE Project Manager & Engineer. This position will report directly to the MCFR Test Engineering Discipline Manager.

Responsibilities

* Responsible for MCRE Mockup execution, delivery, commissioning, and operation.

* Responsible for overall integration of MCRE Mockup systems.

* Successfully manage the Mockup team in a matrixed environment in collaboration with the MCFR Engineering and Operations teams.

* In collaboration with the MCRE Project Manager(s) and Engineer(s), ensure Mockup meets its mission objectives in support of MCRE.

* Determine priority on all Mockup-related tasks/activities.

* Responsible for continuous integration of lessons learned from test engineering, separate effects tests and the Integrated Effects Test (IET) into Mockup design, commissioning, and operations.

* Serve as Project Acceptance for Mockup-specific documents.

* Serve as the primary point of contact with the Mockup Integrator (supplier).

* Effectively communicate current and future Mockup risks to the MCRE Project Manager(s).

* In collaboration with the MCRE Deputy Project Manager(s), ensure the Mockup schedule is up to date (on a monthly basis) and that milestones and key interface points are current.

* Identify resource needs and issues; work to find solutions.

* Responsible for coordination with TerraPower Facilities to execute work and ensure compliance with safety programs.

* Identify and evaluate potential suppliers and coordinate how these suppliers will be utilized by the MCRE project.

* Commission and/or oversee development of technical work scope and budget estimates for new work.

Key Qualifications and Skills

* Minimum of 10 years of experience directly related to technology development, complex system operation, project/program management, project engineering, and/or project delivery; (advanced degree may substitute years' experience)

* Bachelor's degree in engineering, or equivalent; advanced degree preferred.

* Demonstrated experience working with highly multidisciplinary and matrixed teams.

* Demonstrated experience with projects executed under a high degree of regulatory oversight.

* Demonstrated experience leading first of a kind technology development from project initiation, into design phases and through construction, commissioning, and operations.

* Proficiency in project planning, implementation and delivering results in accordance with planned budget and schedule.

* Working knowledge of project scheduling and budget control tools.

* Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, Visio, and MS Project.

* Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills required.

* Strong technical background, including engineering management, is highly desirable.

* Excellent oral and written communication skills.

* The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, will communicate openly, will display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.

Bonus Qualifications

* Engineering and/or hands-on experience with high-temperature molten salt or liquid metal systems.

* Experience working within an NQA-1 environment.

* Nuclear reactor operations experience.

* Experience with software quality assurance.

* Experience with thermal hydraulic model validation.

* Experience with Atlassian tools such as Confluence and Jira.

Salary Range Level 13: $187-088 - $268,939

*Typically, our employee salaries are within .90 - 1.0 of the mid-point of the posted salary band. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected individual's qualifications and experience. This range is specific to Washington State.
