POSITION TITLE: Corps Assistant/Program Specialist

REPORTS TO: Corps Officer

STATUS: Full-time/Non-Exempt

Compensation: $27.00 per hour (DOE)

FUNCTION OF THE POSITION: The Corps Assistant/Program Specialist position will assist and support all Cathedral City Corps Community Center activities. As directed, provide spiritual leadership and operational management to maintain The Salvation Army programs, members, and services of the Corps.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • A college degree in a related field is preferred
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Minimum three (3) years Corps experience required
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate well in English
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish, helpful.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED):

  • Must be an active soldier of The Salvation Army and be able to wear a Salvation Army uniform while on duty.
  • Must be committed to The Salvation Army's Christian mission and ministry.
  • Must know about Salvation Army Music and can read, instruct, and lead music programs including, but not limited to, Songsters, Singing Company, brass bands, Sunday Worship, and music elective programs.

  • Excellent telephone skills
  • Ability and willingness to keep information confidential
  • Must have a valid WA Driver's license and insured transportation. Provide copies to the Corps Officer.

  • Must have or obtain a class "B" Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement within the first 90 days of employment.

SOFTWARE RELATED SKILLS:

  • Microsoft Word and Excel required
  • Microsoft PowerPoint, Sharefaith, streaming platforms
  • Outlook, helpful
  • Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct Salvation Army religious services, including but not limited to Sunday School, Holiness Meetings, Salvation Meetings, Mid-week Prayer Meetings & Bible Studies, and Open-Air Meetings, Corps Council Meetings
  • Direct and conduct group and community meetings, including but not limited to Youth Corps Meetings, including the following, but not limited to YPL (Teen Nights), Music Electives, and other music activities (SAY Club - AC Explorers, AC Rangers, Sunbeams, Girl Guards), Corps Cadets, and Vacation Bible School, Senior Citizens Programs, Community Care Ministries, Advisory Organization Meetings, Men's and or Women's Fellowship, Corps Council Meetings and Social Services.
  • Assist in the management of programs and their successful operations, which includes but is not limited to Overseeing afterschool programs and staff, assisting SAY Sports and Veterans Easy Access Program, Pastoring the soldiers, friends, and interested community members, and visiting appropriately those of the Corps and community in their homes as well as shut-ins, driving for programs both transporting corps members and seasonal workers and picking up donations, and ordering and purchasing materials, and with seasonal operations.
  • Assist in managing programs and their successful operations, including but not limited to business matters affecting and relating directly to the assigned Corps, maintaining the fiscal integrity of the posted Corps, including complete and proper record keeping and security. Ensure high stewardship standards of funds, property, and resources are maintained.
  • Provide the proper balance of religious and social service activity. Maintain good public relations and function in harmony with The Salvation Army guidelines. Promote, direct, and support special events and activities for the assigned Corps.
  • Maintain proper records, including statistical, financial, and all other required reports. Supervise assigned staff, including processing employee matters through the Human Resources Department. These documents include but are not limited to personnel action forms to hire, terminate, increase/decrease pay rates, job descriptions, letters of rationale, and new employee paperwork.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be in good physical and mental health and capable of meeting the program's demands.
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or continuously.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to operate a telephone
  • Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to access and produce information from a computer
  • Ability to understand written information

Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums for employee-only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside a Kaiser service area. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance are offered.

Life and Voluntary Options: An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.

Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.

Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months' service time.

Paid Vacation:

Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months' service time.

Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
