Job Description

The Network Technician II holds a Washington EL06 license, delivers and configures network and Telecom infrastructure equipment, services and solutions needed to support client networking systems and environments. They also perform day-to-day field installation, configuration, service, preventive maintenance, and decommission of dedicated and shared data infrastructure such as computers, network equipment and/or other telecommunications and network devices as well as advanced services such as wireless, audio visual, video conferencing, and physical security.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead on-site support at client premises performing tasks such as hardware, software, and network troubleshooting, server imaging, deployment, configuration, rebuild and decommissions.
  • Physically install, configure and test network assets (i.e. switches, routers, firewalls, network tools & testing devices) in network closets and data center network cabinets.
  • Employ appropriate troubleshooting techniques for network performance issues and Ensure the data network and all related equipment are in optimal working condition.
  • Perform network closet clean-up, switch port optimization, and survey work as needed.
  • Utilize network monitoring software tool during maintenance windows to ensure that all monitored network equipment is functioning in accordance with our clients' standards and SLAs, both before and after changes are made.
  • Perform day-to-day field installation, configuration, service, preventive maintenance, and decommission of advanced services such as:
    • Wireless
      • Install equipment, install testing, support engineering configuration and system testing, and maintain Distributed Antenna System (DAS), WIFI Systems, wireless router, roof mounted antenna and other infrastructure and technologies to provide wireless communications capabilities across clients' networks and data computing infrastructure.
      • Perform incidental and preventative maintenance on DAS and Wi-Fi equipment.
      • Execute & manage 802.11 wireless surveys to identify deficiencies and impact to meet WLAN requirements.
      • Recommend courses of action and/or mitigation alternatives.
    • Video & Audio-Visual (AV)
      • Responsible for setting up, installing, configuring, operating, testing, and troubleshooting audio and video equipment.
      • Install in-ceiling/in-wall speakers & controls, assembling equipment racks, mounting projectors & screens, hanging flat panel TV displays, installing & calibrating AV equipment and programming smart remote controls.
    • Physical Security - CCTV (Closed Circuit TV) and Access Control
      • Survey and plan wire runs to maximize material efficiency and safety.
      • Measure, install, and pull wires through conduits for all circuitry.
      • Diagnose install failures and identify necessary repairs.
      • Diagnose system failures and identify necessary changes.
      • Propose and implement hardware and software upgrades that will improve the performance and reliability of the network system.
      • Complete required documentation in a variety of written and electronic formats according to company standards such as time reporting for billing & payroll, work order progress & completion, time and materials for client SLAs, etc.
      • Inform operations management regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing necessary information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with OSHA regulations.
  • Represent Black Box in client meetings to ensure that all parties are consistently updated on work progress and client expectations are being met.
  • Ensure Black Box quality and safety guidelines are being followed.
  • Assist PM with SOW and scope management on project and service requests.
  • Travel to client sites as needed to complete assigned work and transport a variety of items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at client site.

Education Requirements:

  • Associate degree or Certification in a technology services/technical discipline, or equivalent work experience

Experience Requirements:

  • 5+ years' data networking experience in field service, data center, or related IT technician environment.

Other Qualifications, Skills & Certifications:

  • Washington EL06 License
  • Experience in using a laptop to set configurations on equipment such as routers, switches and other components of an IP Network
  • Proven ability to make software changes (upload, download & SW regression) and installing new software and hardware into various devices such as PCs, routers, servers, etc.
  • Industry and manufacturer specific certifications preferred (examples: A+, Server+, Network+, Microsoft Certifications) + above
  • Proven skills and working knowledge of multiplexes, network topology, frame relay, fractional T-1, SONET Network Technology, ATM, Private Line, and Data applications.
  • Day-to-day field installation, configuration, service, preventive maintenance, and decommission experience of advanced services such as:
    • Wireless manufacturer specific experience and/or certifications preferred (examples: CommScope, Corning, JMA Wireless, Cisco, Aruba, Anritsu certifications, EXFO certifications, PIM certifications, etc.).
    • Audio Visual manufacturer specific experience and/or certifications preferred (examples: Crestron, AMX, Extron, Sharp, Panasonic, DaLite, Draper, Crown, QSC, etc.)
    • Video Conferencing manufacturer specific experience and/or certifications preferred (examples: Cisco, Polycom, Vidyo, etc.)
    • Physical security manufacturer specific experience and/or certifications preferred (examples: Axis, Sony, Pelco, Assa Abloy, RCI, Securitron, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate well and represent Black Box in client meetings and interactions
  • Experience in using a laptop to set configurations on equipment such as routers, switches and other components of an IP Network.
  • Proven ability to make software changes (upload, download & SW regression) and installing new software and hardware into various devices such as PCs, routers, servers, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of critical infrastructure components such as racks, labeling, commercial UPS, switches, routers, terminal server
