Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Director of Multi-Sector Portfolio Management!
About the role
The Director, Multi-Sector Portfolio Management will be focused on two broad sets of responsibilities. The balance of time dedicated to these two areas is expected to fluctuate based upon business needs and the trajectory of third-party asset management growth. First, the successful candidate will assist the Head of Insurance Portfolio Management in the day-to-day management of Symetra's affiliated general account portfolio. Areas of involvement include strategic and tactical asset allocation, cash management, and regular coordination with key SLIC personnel to ensure the portfolio is managed with an appropriate balance of income, liquidity, capital efficiency, credit risk, and competitive considerations. Second, while SIM's sector managers will continue to lead single-sleeve third-party mandates and will be the key client-facing SIM personnel in such contexts, the successful candidate will be the "client PM" for multi-sector third-party mandates requiring active and ongoing reallocation among sectors. To that end, the successful candidate should be prepared to work with other SIM front office and business development personnel in the solicitation and service of third-party clients, and should possess a suitable client-facing presence and commercial mindset. Related to this endeavor, in 2021 SIM launched a multi-sector "fund" (using dedicated capital from SLIC's surplus portfolio) that is designed to provide a performance track record that illustrates SIM's cross-sector and tactical allocation capabilities to external clients. The successful candidate will co-manage this "fund" and assist with any related efforts to commercialize it. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports. However, close collaboration with key stakeholders at SIM and SLIC, as well as a willingness to be "hands on" in the completion of required tasks will be critical to success, and to taking advantage of SIM's opportunistic approach and capabilities.
