Be the Boss in the "place to be" this summer, Kirkland! In our Day Camp Director position provide safe, fun, and enriching camp experiences for Kirkland Youth. Keep the magic of summer alive and create a memorable and meaningful camp experience by incorporating your enthusiasm, creativity and talents into the summer camp schedule.

Essential Duties:

  • Oversees the development of the program, plans and implements all camp activities including weekly trips and special activities.
  • Controls camp expenditures under an operating budget defined by the Department. Oversee the timely ordering and control of camp equipment and supplies. Plan and prepare in advance to have supplies ready for activities.
  • Directly supervise leadership staff, provide daily guidance and support. Schedule staff shifts, lead, mentor and evaluate. Delegate duties to staff as needed.
  • Manage any issues that may arise including, but not limited to camper behavior issues, parent complaints and staff discord.
  • Establish rules with campers and staff. Review policies and emergency procedures. Provide a safe, healthy and inclusive environment.
  • Be an active member of the camp community by participating in camp activities such as swimming, field trips, crafting, games and other activities.
  • Monitors and ensures appropriate participant behavior and adherence to camp rules. Communicate with parent/guardian when needed.
  • Produces the weekly Parent Letter schedule, and pertinent documents needed for the implementation of the camp.
  • Support, encourage and collaborate with leaders to create a cohesive, effective and happy team.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Good verbal, written, and telephone communication skills are required.
  • Ability to interact courteously with the public to acknowledge both compliments and complaints.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated good judgement in problem solving and responding to customer needs.
  • Proficiency in standard computer software, such as Microsoft Office Suite applications Word, Excel and Outlook
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 or older by the date of hire
  • Minimum one year of experience working with children in a leadership position
  • Passionate about working with children
  • Enthusiastic, responsible, dependable, consistent, level-headed, flexible and calm in all situations
  • Must possess or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification prior to start date
  • Must successfully complete a thorough background check as required by the Child/Adult Abuse Information Act
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills
Other

Hours of Work
8 hours per day between 7:45am-6:15pm. Monday through Friday, June 24-August 23rd. Training Days and times will be scheduled the week of June 17, details to be confirmed. After hire, but prior to camp start, there will also be 40 hours allocated to plan the weekly activity schedule for summer, and to procure supplies as needed. During camp sessions attendance is extremely necessary for all staff positions. Day camp staff are seasonal positions that support a mandatory staff to camper ratio. There is very little opportunity for scheduled days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Working Conditions
Performs work in indoor and outdoor settings including multipurpose rooms, parks, playgrounds, beaches and commercial recreation sites. Exposure to extended periods of direct sunlight and/or cool and damp weather is possible. The job requires frequent light lifting (5-10 lbs.) and infrequent heavy lifting of up to 50lbs.
