Aquatics - Aquatic Program Supervisor - Pool & Beach
Pay Rate: $23.59 - $28.17

The City of Kirkland is hiring for the Peter Kirk Pool and Kirkland's three swimming beaches. We are looking for Aquatic Program Supervisor (APS) for our pool and swimming beaches this upcoming 2023 Summer Season. Please see details on the position below.

An APS supervises all aquatics programs and staff at the Peter Kirk Pool and the public swimming beaches. They are the lead trainers of the lifeguard staff. They are also the main staff that work with our swim lesson program participants. Performs a variety of duties such as supervision, scheduling, administrative supports, in-service planning and facilitation, training and volunteer management, leadership and motivation of Aquatics Team. Teaches lifeguard and re-certification courses. Aquatic Program Supervisors provide customer service to the community throughout their shift. As support to the City Aquatic Programs, APS staff perform a variety of duties such as lifeguarding, swim lesson instruction, first aid, and assists in program development and training and leadership of staff.

This is a leadership position that requires previous lifeguarding experience. Come help train the new lifeguard staff, assist the Senior Lifeguard staff in developing their leadership skills and building up your own leadership skill while providing water safety to your community!

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Good verbal, written, and telephone communication skills are required.
  • Ability to interact courteously with the public to acknowledge both compliments and complaints.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated good judgement in problem solving and responding to customer needs.
  • Proficiency in standard computer software, such as Microsoft Office Suite applications Word, Excel and Outlook
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • A current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification is required on or before the first day of employment.
  • Minimum of one season of aquatics experience as a senior lifeguard, senior instructor or equivalent.
  • Minimum 19 years of age.
  • Must be able to pass the Aquatics Skill Checks.
  • Successful completion of a thorough background check as required by the Child/Adult Abuse Information Act
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current ARC Water Safety Instructor (WSI) and/or Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certifications preferred.

Hours of Work
Employee may work daytime, evenings and weekends, depending on programming needs and facility coverage, mid-May to mid-September. Work schedule and needs may fluctuate during periods of low attendance and poor weather days.
