Position Summary

The Patient Access Technician (PAT) is an exciting opportunity at MultiCare, responsible for welcoming patients at one of our Off-Campus Emergency Departments. This position works closely with both financial and clinical teams and will offer you the space to create the optimum patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • You will assure complete and accurate patient admissions/registrations according to organization policy and procedures and regulatory requirements
  • You will obtain inpatient bed assignments and processes inpatient admission, to include arm banding, addressograph plate, and completion of necessary forms
  • You will pre-admit all scheduled inpatient, outpatients and ambulatory patients to facilitate a smooth and speedy admission/registration process
  • You will obtain direct admit information and enter a reservation in the computer system in order to notify other areas
  • You will complete comprehensive bedside or telephone interviews with patient, relative, or their representative to obtain pertinent demographic insurance and/or third party liability information
  • You will perform eligibility verification and resolves any discrepancies, determine need for financial assistance recommendation and application, referring to the Financial Counselor where necessary

Requirements

  • National Association of Healthcare Access Management certification as a Patient Access Technician, or agreement to obtain training and become certified within 6 months of position start date
  • Computer experience or training in Windows and MS Word
  • Completion of medical terminology course or proficiency is required
  • Minimum two years minimum admitting or billing experience in a health care setting required
  • Customer service experience required
