The Controller -Small Vessel will be a key player supporting Trident's Catcher Vessel Fleet. The Controller will provide key analysis and insights to guide decision making. The individual selected will take a leadership role producing reporting and analysis to improve financial performance of the assigned fleet.

The individual selected will provide strong leadership and partnership to fleet managers that ensures financial accounting and reporting objectives are met.

The Controller will also provide financial insight and support management teams to meet their goals and objectives. The Small Vessel Controller will ensure all plant accounting/reporting is done in a timely and accurate manner and in accordance with Trident policies.

This position will be located at Trident's Seattle Support Center with frequent visits to Trident's Old Yard in Seattle. Travel of 10-15% to Trident's locations in AK, OR, and WA may be required.

This hybrid position will be a combination of remote and onsite at the Trident Support Center office in Seattle, WA. Our hybrid work environment includes remote on Monday and Friday and in the Support Center on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides financial decision support to the Catcher Vessel, Crabber Fleet and Tender management team to ensure sound financial and operational decisions.
  • Provides accurate and timely operational performance reporting to the vessel, tender and company level management teams.
  • Uses analytical techniques and metrics to identify and make recommendations to improve operational performance and lower operational costs.
  • Provides finance leadership for productivity initiatives at the vessel and tender level.
  • Instills strong cost control and planning discipline to assist management in controlling operational costs.
  • Leads the monthly P&L reporting process for each assigned vessel and tender.
  • Leads the annual business planning process for the assigned fleet, including preparation of the financial business plan, revenue, and cost inputs.
  • Participates and/or leads strategic planning initiatives.
  • Assists the Vessel and Tender management team with capital planning, including calculating and evaluating financial payback, for all capital expenditure proposals.
  • Works with divisional business units on various initiatives including:
    • Providing cost estimates for innovation and cost reduction projects.
    • Identifying cost/performance improvement opportunities.
  • Ensures the accuracy and integrity of the vessel and tender accounting systems and records, as well as strict compliance to all company policies, procedures and controls.
  • Exhibits necessary ERP system proficiency for both finance and other functions (SAP experience preferred).
  • Leverages available systems to enhance data access, analytical information and management reporting.
  • Key focus areas include operational cost management, Repair and Maintenance cost and utilization, asset utilization, overhead expenditure control and productivity analytics.
  • Follows Trident safety policies, food safety policies and industry best practices.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and monitors accounting controls, including maintenance and review of monthly revenues and costs.
  • Accumulates and records defined period costs. Monitors cost and revenue variances and reports to management.
  • Ensures the accuracy of monthly closing of books, including preparation of month-end journal entries and maintaining the general ledger.
  • Performs analysis of all assigned vessel costs and variances; prepares monthly P&L statements.
  • Acquires knowledge of Trident's Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions
  • Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings
  • Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5+ years' progressive experience in manufacturing accounting positions required
  • B.A. in Accounting and/or Finance or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Experience supporting vessels preferred.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Lean Manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Experience in the seafood industry preferred.

Special Training/Skills:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively before groups of customers, employees and senior management of the organization. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Mental Activities:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to use decision making skills, creativity, independent judgment, discretion, and problem analysis. The employee will occasionally use interpersonal skills and teamwork. The employee will regularly speak and read English and use customer service skills.

This is a Salaried - Exempt position with an annualized salary range of: $93,000 - $105,000

Employees will also receive 3.08 hours paid vacation and 2.16 hours of paid sick time per two-week pay period and ten paid holidays throughout the calendar year, along with paid parental leave.
