To strengthen our US IT team, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: US IT Head of Patient Platforms & Solutions

As IT Head of Patient Platforms & Solutions, you will play a key role in the improvement of UCB's patient experience, by driving the portfolio of digital solutions proposed to UCB patients on the different therapeutic areas.


You like to work in an environment where you can:

  • Align with the local US business leaders to orchestrate the vast spectrum of digital initiatives required to support UCB's ambitions in terms of patient engagement & improved patient experience, based on:
    • An omnichannel approach in terms of engagement (CRM capabilities)
    • A better understanding of the patient journey (patient data management capabilities)
    • A holistic approach of patient needs (integration of services into eco-system of solutions)
    • A personalization of content & services (modular & customizable components)
  • Leverage the global technology capabilities and develop local specific solutions required to support the new ways of engaging and interacting digitally with US patients, and will lead the deployment roadmap of the ecosystem of solutions supporting the US G2M approach, which will a.o. encompass:
    • Patient facing technologies (front-end) like websites, mobile apps, social media channels
    • Patient engagement orchestration technologies like CRM capabilities, and technologies enabling the personalization of services
    • Patient Data management technologies, supporting the reporting/dashboarding requirements in terms of patient interactions, but also preparing the ground for Advanced Analytics / Artificial Intelligence types of solutions
  • Ensure the right local US architecture is framed for all these solutions not to be developed in silos, and would be capable of supporting business initiatives like Patient Support Programs, Connected Devices, AI solutions, ... respecting the GxP & Data Privacy regulations when required and ensuring all solutions are TSSC (Trustworthy, Safe, Secure, Compliant)
  • Align with global IT members developing patient solutions as re-usable assets, to ensure synergies, economies of scale, optimization of TCO, and accelerated speed to market when possible.
  • Manage the local IT US patient solutions team, deploying global assets but also developing local specific solutions/platforms required to cope with US specific patient engagement requirements/possibilities.


You will contribute by:

Stakeholder Engagement & DBT Technology Roadmaps

  • Partner with the different US business units which are developing patient solutions beyond the drug, and align with US leaders on the translation of their strategic commercial goals into roadmaps of digital capabilities.
  • Drive the DBT roadmap of the ecosystem of patient platforms & solutions, embracing
    • front-end technologies (websites, mobile apps, social media),
    • journey orchestration technologies (CRM capabilities & personalization of services)
    • patient data engineering & management technologies
    • disruptive patient solutions like multi-sided patient platforms & A.I. applications
  • Act as thought leader to frame the integration of innovative & transformative digital initiatives (globally and/or locally developed) into the local US eco-system of solutions offered to the patient, ensuring a true added value for them and for the company.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the current but also future eco-system of digital solutions which can be proposed to patients, aligning with the ambitions of the Commercial teams (G2M teams & Missions), but also on the best practices coming from Legal, Patient Safety, QA, Regulatory Affairs, ...
  • Guide business stakeholders in technology choices, including for initiatives delivered in partnership mode. Bring an outside-in view on future technology trends, including the leveraging of global IT assets and ensure the team is up-to-date with digital capabilities of the future.
  • Challenge business ambitions to focus on realistic, achievable yet impactful solutions (Business Case approach)

Project Delivery & Operational Excellence

  • Design, Develop, Deploy (Project Delivery) and Operate (Operational Excellence) the patient platforms & solutions offered by UCB towards US patients
  • Deliver projects in close collaboration with all parties involved (business and IT, internal and external partners), following the IT project methodology.
  • Ensure patient solutions are TSSC (trustworthy, secure, safe and compliant). Work with the global IT teams to ensure such solutions are developed or integrated and operated.
  • Ensure compliance of the solutions to global process and legal requirements, follow validation guidelines and SOPs (respecting the UCB QMS, GxP & SaMD regulations).

Talent Development, Technology Leadership & resource management

  • Leading cross-functional project teams & fostering integration and shared ownership between Patient Value Units, Missions, Engines, DBT & Medical Device teams.
  • Drive cross-team collaboration and establish community of sharing & learning to accelerate capabilities development
  • Manage the team of IT resources delivering and maintaining the patient solutions in the US, as well as the budgets linked to all of them
  • Provide guidance across business unit Missions/ Regions /Local affiliates for building towards patient personalized content & service capability, and associated individual competencies and skills
  • Follow market trends and industry best practices with the aim of sharing the acquired knowledge inside UCB and of applying it to propose innovative solutions.
  • Actively take part in the implementation of the IT strategy, ensuring the appropriate leveraging of technology skills from other IT teams.


For this position you'll need the following education, experience and skills:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Minimum of five (5+) years of progressive experience in digital healthcare field
  • Minimum of seven (7+) years of change management and advanced project management experience, including technical implementations
  • Experience in managing teams of diverse internal & external competencies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in managing patient solutions & applications beyond the drug, including GxP, Data Privacy & Medical devices aspects
  • Functional & Technical knowledge of relevant technology solutions proposed towards patients beyond the drug (3+ years)
  • High level of comfort with digital healthcare strategies, trends & opportunities and discussing & strategizing the use of technology
  • Knowledge of core digital marketing competencies applied in a patient engagement context
  • Understanding of business long term perspective to set up strategies and roadmaps that creates a differentiated patient experience/value
  • Able to evaluate new technologies in view of creating patient value with a strategic perspective in mind
  • Evaluation, design, development & deployment of digital patient solutions beyond the drug, including patient platforms & software as medical device ones
  • Understanding of commercial, omnichannel & digital marketing activities
  • Able to manage a diverse team with partners in many places across the world.
  • Able to engage in strategic relationships with business leaders & executives on local US level
