To strengthen our ability to functionally validate and integrate genetics data into our drug discovery pipeline, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Scientist I, based in our Boston Office, in Cambridge, MA.

The Element Genomics is looking for a talented Scientist I with experience driving integration of genetics, functional genomics and biological data, with application in human disease-relevant biology models, to enable prioritization of pathological pathways and molecular targets for new therapeutic programs.

You like to work in an environment where you can:

  • Focus on pathways critical to disease pathology and when targeted with our small molecule, biologic or gene therapy approaches, will enable patients to alter the course of their disease, and with the ambition of cure.
  • Positively impact patient populations in focus including those where we are leaders in immunologic and neurological disease, and those where we are building capabilities including in neuromuscular disease.
  • Design and execute experiments to aid in target identification and validation based on these datasets.
  • Have accountability for achieving therapeutic project milestones and delivering on objectives through effective internal and external collaboration across different functions and geographies.

You will contribute by:

  • Operating as a key member of a matrixed team of scientists responsible for applying the tools of human genetics, bioinformatics, and functional genomics to target identification and knowledge building across patient populations including those in neuromuscular disease.
  • Engaging cross-functionally across our functional genomics, data science, biology, translational medicine and development sciences capabilities to identify opportunities for therapeutics development based on human genetics and functional genomics insights
  • Exploring and identifying external collaborations with academia and industry partners to leverage tools to exploit human genetics, genomics and health data to prioritize new therapeutic pathways and molecular targets.
  • Driving scientific excellence and technology developments to maximize both current and future impact on programs and projects.
  • Providing strong scientific thinking, develop hypotheses and drive scientific learnings on projects.

Interested? For this position, you'll need the following education, experience and skills:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. with 8+ years of relevant experience or M.S. with 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of discovery genetics and translating that into potential targets for therapeutics discovery, with direct experience with the design, development, optimization, and prosecution of experiments for validation of genetic findings and target validation.
  • Experience with diverse 'omics and biological datasets.
  • Independent scientist who can drive science with minimal supervision and thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to clearly communicate scientific strategy and results to stakeholders including project teams and senior management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD with 2+ years of applicable research experience with excellent scientific track record.
  • A candidate's level will be dependent on relevant experience leveraging human genetic, epigenetic, and associated 'omics for therapeutics discovery.
