UCB's Boston R&D Hub is developing a platform to evaluate new druggable targets within the area of nucleotide repeat disorders, linking genetics to molecular pathways to organ dysfunction.


We are looking to add a Scientist I or II to our team who will have responsibility for investigating causal pathobiology within this area with the goal of identifying druggable molecular targets. The lab-based scientist will also have responsibility for developing and executing assays for discovery of new therapeutics. The goal is to build confidence in novel targets to facilitate further investment.

Major Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

  • Develop, troubleshoot, and validate new assays, including translatable cell-based models
  • Have accountability for achieving drug project milestones and delivering on objectives through effective internal and external collaboration across different geographies
  • Drive scientific excellence and technology developments to maximize both current and future impact on programs and projects
  • Provide strong scientific thinking, develop hypotheses, and drive scientific learnings on projects

Minimum Experience / Skills Required:

  • PhD with 0-4 years of applicable research experience with excellent scientific track record
  • Direct experience with the design, development, optimization, and prosecution of experiments for new target ID/validation
  • Direct hands-on experience with advanced cell and molecular biology techniques and experience with culturing a wide variety of human cell lines
  • Experience with applying cellular and biochemical techniques for target validation, drug discovery screening and evaluating the mechanism of action of novel molecular entities
  • Experience with the analysis and statistics relevant to in vitro screens
  • Excellent communicator, with good presentation and organizational skills

Preferred Experience / Skills:

  • Experience with small molecules/ligands/therapeutics is preferred
  • Working knowledge or experience with CRISPR screening approaches is a plus
  • Knowledge of targeted protein degradation is a plus
  • Neuroscience and/or immunology background is a plus
  • Preference for candidates with direct industry experience
  • Independent scientist who can drive with minimal supervision but also to thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment
